Stan, I have listened to the same cassette (yes, cassette) in my car for the past two years: Blues Master Vol 4 Harmonica Classics.  I look forward to it every day.  Steady is my favorite cut on it.  Tone, timing, it's got it all!

Jerry McCain was a great song writer too.   I currently sing one of his songs,

"I heard another man knockin' on your door.
I heard another man knockin' on your door.
I heard another man knockin' on your door.
That's why baby, I know you don't love me no more."

And I"m learning another one, "That's What They Want".

But the bottom line, it is that I spend a lot of time listening to him.  Great stuff.

In his later years, he seemed to let go of that great Little Walter harmonica tone, but it sure is interesting that he was "tough enough" to develop it.

I still listen to Steady almost every day and would love to know how he gets this sound.  Funny, decades ago when I first heard it, I wasn't impressed.  Any ideas?  Do you think at least some of it is amp related?

It is a great tone and the overdriven sound merges so well with that great tone.

On "Steady", his tone sounds closer to Little Walter's than most anyone I could name.   I think it is a lips, nasal cavities, diaphram, tone coming from inside thing.   I think good equipment allows it to be heard better.

It is interesting because in later years, hes playing kind of fell down to the level of other people's playing.

Yeah, I spent some time on YT and couldn't find anything else by him that I liked as much.  Anything I might've missed?

Been real lazy in the last 8 months, on a break sth coast NSW, no harp but playing some Jerry McCain you tube vids, gosh, sometimes a decent off season and keeping away from playing can sure get 'dem blues juices flowing, His wailing style has had me focused for some time, even as a fill in in a jam, its enuff to be good but not over the wall playing, (if you get my drift). I'm there, but keeping under the radar atm.....Edit, Lucy Pearl's another classic.
