Anyone going to Harmonica Collab in Indy?
« on: April 23, 2013, 08:46:47 AM »
Anyone from this august group plan to be in Indy for next 4 days for the Harmonica Collaborative? If so, track me down.
It looks like it's going to be intensive and fun--something I could use -as well as a break from last week.
Jeff Z. in Cambridge.

Never heard of it.  When is it and what is it?  Is there a web site?

I live in indy and i hadnt heard of it.  I wonder if any of those guys will be at the slippery noodle.  If you are coming, make sure you go to the noodle every night youre here.  Wednesdays is jam night, the rest is live blues heaven, every night.  If you need any info about the town, just send me an email.

Left you a message with specifics.
Most performing, I believe, will be at the Main Event.
Day passes, btw, may be available.
Come on by.

Looks great but its a little late.  Next year it would be a fun meet up if I had more time to plan.  Not that far from Milwaukee.

$450, too steep for me.  I'm sure it's worth it, but $450 plus air, hotel and meals, and that's a whole lotta custom harmonicas you could buy.  Or a killer amp    Or I could pay my rent ;  )

All right!  Bruce steps outside the man cave into daylight!    I think you are more than ready, my man.

How did this thing turn out? You ever get to the chatterbox or the noodle?  Get stabbed at the main event over a pool game did ya?

That's the way that performance works - you practice, dutifully - and then you go out and enjoy it! ... before practicing some more  :)

How did it go?

It went very well. I have been back for over a week and I am still dreaming of harmonica playing every night.
Lots of great elements. Just a few highlights:
  • Learning about tongue switching from James Conway- something I must master
  • Hearing James Conway-omg- I will learn an Irish Jig asap.
the session is very intense- workshops run from 9 to 6:30(with lunch break) - break for 90 minutes and then jam at Main Event or hotel theater space.
Deak Harp - what a trip- when he plays, his entire body becomes the band--very expressive.
Lot's of other great teachers- I could go on-- but, for me, even better were the attendees.
People like chicagobluesman (outstanding blues), ridge ( a north shore harper with Ricci licks- awesome) and the Resonator who I was fortunate to sit next to on the return flight. Nonstop talk.
Oh, there was this Ricci guy also, teaching classes and playing - showing how to work an amp, various licks and harmonies - fun to record.
Pretty  darn good-- a whole lot better than some other conferences I attended in my corporate days, yessiree.
 Glad I attended.[/list]
