Single note boogie
« on: February 26, 2012, 05:51:22 PM »
I hadn't played a single-note boogie in ages.  I did today, starting on the 2D. (hit each note twice: 2d, 3d, 4d, 5b, 5d, 5b, 4d, 3d)  Then I was doing the IV, and I realized there's a note missing (4b, 5b, 6b, 6d, ___)  I noticed Frosty saying his Richter had the 7D tuned down a half step.  I think that's the note I was missing.  You can also OB the 6 to get it.  I can OB 6 but not twice in a row in a fast boogie.  I think Todd Parrot does all his Richters that way.  It's odd to me, though, I thought I used to play single note boogies a lot in the seventies, I must've been shluffing the missing note.  Or is there another way I'm missing?  Maybe using a different position?

you can play it at the low end starting on 1b, i think.
it requires some bending, but sure sounds better.

Cool, that works.  I usually avoid starting on a blow 1, but all the bends on this give it a nice feel.  Thanks!

Oh forgot to add you can play 3b instead of 2d to start the lick especially if you tongue slap it.

For some reason 7B didn't sound right at the time.  Of course it sounds fine to me now, DOH.  And thanks for the tip on the slaps, Cameron!

Yeah. Starting on the 1b for the IV chord works well. I do a lot of variations on boogie walking patterns and usually start the IV on the 1b.
