Title: attenuator on Harpgear DT
Post by: Blue In Green on September 04, 2014, 02:16:26 PM
I'm considering getting a Weber Minimass attenuator for my harpgear DT so I can play at home a lower volume with good overdriven tube sound. There are two models of this attenuator. One is 50 watt and the other is 25. I'm leaning toward the 25 watt since the amp is 18 watts but does anyone know if I'd be likely to overdrive the amp beyond 25 watts? I really have no idea how much I'm overdriving the amp when I play it live and crank it.

I ordered the 50 watt version of the Weber Minimass:

Will report on how well it works for me. Looking to get good tone and breakup out of my amp for in-home practicing along with backing tracks. Should work well for recording as well.

I use the minimass 18 on my excelsior from time to time.  I can shut the amp all the way down if need be and just use the line out for listening.  Also use it for line out only sound when recording.  The beauty of the Weber is that I can attenuate high and low frequencies separately and still crank the amp.

My Minimass 50 came the other day and finally had  chance to try it. I does exactly what I want. I am getting great amp sound even at high levels of attenuation and can easily match the volume of back tracks I have playing off my computer speakers. So far I really like it. I had them put on a headphone jack in addition to the lineout and that seems like both of those will be useful in some situations. Thanks for info on how you use yours Gorf.

Hey Guys,

Sounds cool, would love to hear the attenuator and have wanted for a long time to hear what an Excelsior sounds like with a harp.

Hey, just tried the lineout on the minimass into my micro br recording studio. Pretty awesome! Thanks for the tip Gorf. Can get big fat no-speaker amp sound that way and is very easy to set up and control volume.
