Harmonica Playing Technique Q & A / Re: Isn't She Lovely by Paul Lassey
« on: January 15, 2016, 03:35:00 AM »
Please, I mean no offense at all but from someone who's been playing the Chrom as long as I have and knows this song pretty well. Playing isn't she lovely on a Diatonic just does not work for me. Like comments about the Blues being in a Diatonic Harp domain, Isn't She Lovely is a tune that should be done on a Chromatic.
that's why playing it on a diatonic harp is so cool.

Harmonica Playing Technique Q & A / Re: The 6OB

Well, I can finally play this with some consistency in context, but I haven't come up with a riff that makes it seem worthwhile.  Does anyone have a suggestion?  I can play it without having to hit 6D first, that was my obstacle for a long time.  I'm playing it on two OOB Suzukis that I found on Amazon for $15 each, a Harpmaster Bb and a Promaster C 7th tuning (same as country tuning).  Wish I had bought a lot more but I was wary of a ripoff.  They've been good harps.  But the deals gone.  Very annoying how expensive harps have gotten, way past inflation.  Cheaper to buy a guitar and change the strings once in a while.  Harp was supposed to be a cheap way into the blues,  no more.
There is a lot more to guitar than changing strings. Plus now a days strings will coast you about rhe same as a reed plate. :)

Harmonica Playing Technique Q & A / Re: Pros that only use OOB harps

Any of the ones that I've talked to (either as they pass through town or when I'm down in California) have said they have their harps worked on - either a little bit or a whole lot. I admit the number isn't great but probably a dozen or so. It would be interesting to know what the percent of high end players would be and if the harps are literally OOB without any special prep by sponsoring companies like Hohner and Seydel.
l'm just starting to customize my harps for over blows. I adjusted a Lee Oskar and a Manji M-20. I will be buying tools soon so I can replace and tune reeds on a harmonica. I am just getting into overblowning. I practice overblows playing Take 5 by Dave Brubeck
