Delay
« on: April 14, 2013, 03:14:05 AM »
Hey guys, writing this with a gruesome hangover.
Regarding to my last post in 'The Main Stage Tracks': I'm fairly new on the scene, findin' my way around the bluesharp (playin' for 'bout 16 months now, but totaly addicted), Floppy Lips and BeŽlzebob suggested I could use some 'delay'.
Please elaborate my friends: what is 'delay' and how to get it.
Have a nice one,

Hangover John.

"Delay" means a delay pedal.

If you play live into an amp, then Lonewolf's delay pedal is good because it is designed to go in this chain

mic  -->delay  --> amp

If you go on ebay and type in delay you will find many delays for guitar.  Some work well for harp.

You can also use the delay in your recording software rather than an actual delay pedal.  Much, much cheaper.

In this particular context, I think they other players were talking about delay in your recording software rather than a pedal. Doesn't have to be delay. I typically use use "reverb" settings rather than delay, especially for acoustic harp recordings.

Above is a link to a very good free reverb called Ambience.

http://www.voxengo.com/group/free-vst-plugins/

Here's a page for free "plugins" by Voxengo.  One of them is Old Skool Verb, which I've used occasionally.  Like Ambience, these only work in your music software (DAW).  If the installation does not do it automatically, you would have to copy the *.dll file into your vst folder, which is in your Windows folder.  Then it should appear in your DAW.  Then you gotta experiment with the plugin itself and see what works for harp!
