THE BLUES BOX out of hiding !
« on: May 31, 2013, 10:15:04 PM »
hi guys, after a while of not building anything I got the hankering to build a little something, dreamed up this great little idea.

Pignose 7-100 L
took the guts and up sized the cab and speaker. Sounds & looks great!

I like the wood grain look. The one I bought from you with Bogen internals looks and sounds great. I've been long tempted to try a Pig Nose after hearing someone post on this site using one (JHT, about 5 years ago).

amp didnt sell, so im putting together a package deal, building a cigar box guitar to go with it, got it started. I got a feeling its gonna sound gr8 with the metal resonating body.

Ha ha, you are branching out a bit.

I have a Randy Blues Box story for you.

A while back a guitar buddy of mine visited.  We were both playing guitar and I had to keep the volume low.   I gave him the Roland Micro Cube, which is an amazing little amp for $100 or so for guitar.

I fired up the blues box amp.   I couldn't turn it up enough to cause any break up.  I tried putting dirt pedals in front of it, but they only interfered with its gorgeous tone.   So I just played it at low volume.   But what can I say, it sounded gorgeous clean.  Very bluesy and real.     All that without making it grunt.

The amp sounds pretty nice.   And you make beautiful boxes.
I think people are unconvinced that the old Hammond 8" speaker makes a worthwhile difference.   You need to play a standard pignose side by side with your modified pignose.    And you should add some delay to both, to make both sound as good as possible.

Also you need to add your $3 pieco pickup to your cigar box guitar so you can play it through the amp, so they are more of a ,meaningful set.

You are a creative guy, you just need to make your argument more forceful   ... so we can hear it.

It takes some convincing because you are asking someone to pay $150 - $200 (including shipping) for something they can buy for $100 (including shipping), and for something which comes in a smaller form factor.  You have to prove it is worthwhile to lug around that larger box.

I was crunched for time because I am out of town, when I get back I will add the pick up, as for the cost, a stock pig nose is 100 bucks, But I have a lot more with materials and labor involved here, the only thing that is standard is the chassis, the rest is blues box magic, and that magic has a price :-) I actually need to get more than 200 I was use trying to move it cuz I was leaving town. Remember your getting a guitar and a custom amp cab, I sweated on these things man! :-)

I build stuff and occasionally lose my shirt.   I have a guitar up on ebay now that I built.  To be honest, including shipping, I probably have $1,000 in it, but I am having trouble getting $500 for it.    I did not build it to make money, it was just an experiment I am tired of.

The first two times up on ebay it did not sell, so I have turned on the "blues machine" and made the text more exciting.  We'll see how it goes

Here's a taste of the new description:

It  has P-90's with Snarling Dog attitude that can sing as sweet as a mountain woman, and a mahogany body that can grunt like a porno star. The special Hipshot bridge allows the guitar to change tunings on stage, change personalities as fast as that schizo girlfriend your friends still kid you about. If that does not give you the cold sweats ....

It two stacked tone pots, each with tone on top and volume on the bottom. Put your fingers on the bottom and have at it. The switch is a three way. Oh my.

Gota monkey grip so you can get a handle on tone.

If you can handle it, here it is:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/111113419826?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1586.l2649

I should do a video, but I don't have a video camera.
